FSS Onboarding Lesson 9: Toolkits, Campaigns & Outreach

Program toolkits, public awareness campaigns, and outreach materials available to home visiting staff.

What Toolkits Are Available?

DPH and the home visiting program maintain a collection of toolkits and materials designed to support FSS workers in their visits with families. Available topics include:

  • Child development milestones -- age-by-age guides to what children are typically doing and how parents can support development
  • Safe sleep -- materials aligned with American Academy of Pediatrics safe sleep guidelines
  • Early literacy -- read-aloud tips, booklists for young children, strategies for building language from birth
  • Nutrition and breastfeeding -- guidance on infant feeding, introducing solids, and supporting healthy eating habits
  • Parenting and positive discipline -- strengths-based parenting strategies and support for the parent-child relationship

Toolkits are available in both English and Spanish for most topics.

Where to Access Materials

All program toolkits and materials are housed in the Resource Library within the Delaware Family Support Hub at defamilysupporthub.org. Go to Training, then the Resource Library, browse by topic category, and click on a resource to view, download, or share it.

Public Awareness Campaigns

Delaware's Home Visiting Program runs periodic public awareness campaigns to increase knowledge of home visiting, reduce stigma, and encourage referrals. Campaign activities include social media content, community events such as resource fairs and hospital outreach, and referral campaigns targeting OB/GYNs, midwives, and hospital social workers.

How FSS Workers Participate in Outreach

  • Representing the program at community events. When your LIA participates in health fairs or community resource events, you may be asked to staff a table or speak to potential participants.
  • Sharing program materials. You can share information about the program with community members who may benefit.
  • Making referrals back to the program. If you work with a family whose neighbor or friend might benefit from home visiting, you can share information about how to enroll.

Requesting New or Updated Materials

If you notice that a toolkit is outdated or there is a topic area not currently addressed in the Resource Library, submit a request through your LIA coordinator, who can forward the request to DPH.

Learning Check

After completing this lesson, you should be able to:

  • Name at least four toolkit topic areas available to FSS workers and explain where to access them
  • Describe two types of public awareness campaigns the program uses
  • Identify at least two concrete ways an FSS worker participates in program outreach
