How to Add Blog Authors and the Byline Module

For DPH staff who publish on blog.defamilysupporthub.org. Add a writer once to the HV Blog Authors table, then insert the HV Blog Author module on the post so the byline uses their name and headshot.

Overview

The person who wrote a post is usually not the HubSpot user who schedules it. HubSpot’s built-in Blog Author photo is empty for most posts (readers see a purple circle). Headshots live in HubDB. You pick that person on the post.

Do this in two parts: add the person once to the roster, then add the byline on each post you publish for them.

Part 1: Add a person to HV Blog Authors (once)

Use this when someone new should be credited on the blog. Returning writers already on the table do not need a new photo.

  1. Log in to HubSpot. Go to Content (or Marketing → Files and Templates) and open HubDB.
  2. Open the table named HV Blog Authors (hv_blog_authors). Direct link: HV Blog Authors table.
  3. Click Add row.
  4. Fill in:
    • name — public display name (required)
    • title — role and/or agency (shown on the post when Bio is empty)
    • headshot — upload their photo once
    • bio — optional longer blurb
    • email — optional, for internal matching only (not shown on the post)
    • active — leave checked for current writers
  5. Click Publish in the upper right. Live posts cannot read a row until the table is published.
Do not add a headshot field to the monthly blog submission form. Collect name + photo once (email or Drive), add the HubDB row, then skip the photo on later submissions.

Part 2: Add the byline module to a blog post

Do this on every post so readers see the writer, not the scheduler.

  1. Open the blog post in HubSpot (Marketing → Website → Blog).
  2. In the post body, click Add and insert the module HV Blog Author.
  3. Leave Author source on Person from author roster.
  4. Select the writer from the roster. Pick the person who wrote the piece, not the HubSpot user who is publishing it.
  5. Update or publish the post so the live page picks up the module.

That module is the author card readers see in the article.

Hero byline (optional)

The post template also has HV Blog Author fields in the sidebar / hidden modules. That picker drives the name and photo in the hero and the author card at the bottom of the template. Use the same roster person there if you want the hero to match.

One-off guest

Use One-off guest author only when the byline should not join the roster. Guest name + headshot apply to that post only.

Important notes

  • Always publish the HubDB table after adding or editing a person.
  • Existing published posts keep the old name and purple circle until you open them, pick a HubDB author, and update.
  • Optional: set Settings → Author to the same person if HubSpot /author/… archive pages should stay accurate. On-page name and photo come from HubDB, not from that native setting.
  • Uncheck active for people who should no longer be picked on new posts. Do not delete historical rows.
